Hi! I’m Amena Brown. A poet. A storyteller. A stage performer. Black Girl is a Verb is a bi-monthly newsletter featuring humor, the creative process, poetry, pop culture, carbs, cuss words, music, art, and other Black girl musings. A place where Black women are always centered.
Here I let you in on my creative process, people I’m inspired by, and the things I’m unlearning, with a lens of humor and a little pettiness. Look forward to possible peeks at new writing, be the first to know about new shit I’m working on, and have your questions ready for when I do a random Q&A.
My favorite thing about performing is interacting with the audience, laughing, realizing, remembering that we may not be as alone as we feel sometimes. I hope we can do some of this together here too. Feel free to leave comments and I’ll do my best to respond.
Whether you know me from my poetry, podcasting, performances, or other creative work, you know I love to tell a good story. I’d love to hear your stories, too. Here, Black Girl is a verb. Here, we Black Girl in every way we want to.
